Down with Facebook!

Een humoristisch stukje over een Facebook weigeraar. Citaat: "So I'm not inflexible. But there is one promise I've made to myself. And that is that no matter how long I live, no matter how much pressure is exerted, no matter how socially isolated I become, I will never, ever join Facebook". De auteur van dit artikel schrijft over zijn acceptatie van nieuwe fenomenen. Zo te zien is hij geen "early adopter". Pas als de trend bijna over is begint hij er aan. Niet erg. Waar hij echt een grote "mega hekel" aan heeft is Facebook met zijn fake vrienden. Dat slaat volgens hem nergens op. Iemand nodigde hem uit tot deze community toe te treden. "Attached to his invitation, intended to shame me out of nonparticipation ("Resistance is futile, join the Borg," he wrote), was a link to a piece Manjoo had just written, tauntingly entitled "You Have No Friends--Everyone else is on Facebook. Why aren't you?" Dit was echter niet de juiste benadering voor iemand die toch al skepticus was. En: "Whether or not you intend it, you're saying something by staying away". Enfin, zo gaat het nog wel even door, het is een vrij lang artikel. Voer voor skeptici, humoristisch tijdverdrijf voor de rest. U neemt dit toch niet serieus?
