Een nieuwe site. Een site met informatie over 1.8 miljoen schrijvers. Dat is erg veel. In eerste instantie leek het me dan ook een prima initiatief. Tot ik wat verder begon te lezen. Elke schrijver krijgt op deze "sociale site" een eigen pagina. Maar het onderhoud hiervan en de mogelijkheden zijn niet gratis. Citaat: "Without permission or advance notice, FiledByAuthor has cataloged the information of about 1.8 million authors into individual pages. There are biographies, photos, links to purchase books from online retailers and links to share the author's FiledBy page through a dizzying list of social networking sites." Vooral dat "zonder toestemming" komt bijzonder negatief over. Verder: "After FiledByAuthor creates these Web pages, it then "invites" authors to "claim" their free pages. For a fee -- $99 or $399 per year -- an author can raise their membership level to "verified." This allows an author to gain more control over his or her page, being able to do things like add more than two links, use a blog tool, manage a calendar. " Er zijn hier een aantal zaken. Ten eerste: auteurs kregen niet de keus om te weigeren op deze site te komen. Een aantal van hen heeft zelf al een prima website. Ten tweede: men moet ook nog eens betalen voor onderhoud van de pagina. Ten derde: men kan zich niet laten verwijderen van Filedby.Author. Alles bij elkaar een totaal verkeerde insteek en het is dan ook maar zeer de vraag of deze site een lang leven beschoren is.
